The good thing for a brand new organization is that we can start new things very easily. So we decided to join #GivingTuesday a couple years after we established our nonprofit, Haircuts with Heart.

We provide free haircuts, manicures, and makeup applications for the Bay Area’s underserved communities; including people experiencing homelessness, living in poverty, and veterans and their families. Our mission is to regain their identities they once lost and make them proud of who they are.

Since we are a small nonprofit with less than 10 people, we thought #GivingTuesday is a great opportunity to raise funds, let more people get to know Haircuts with Heart, and gain more supporters all around the U.S.

However, it was like walking through the darkness at first; We had no idea what #GivingTuesday is all about, how it works, and what we can do throughout this campaign. However, lots of resources on #GivingTuesday website made us less overwhelmed. They offered past case studies, a sample campaign schedule, graphic images for social media, and more.

We first started to create our campaign schedule based on the sample schedule. Then we made an announcement through our social media: Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. We also promoted our campaign directly at our events. We will keep on spreading our words in many different ways.

Our goal is to provide our service to 1,000 guests within next year. To do so, #GivingTuesday will be our very first step. We are still walking through the darkness, but now we can see light little by little. We are excited about our involvement with our own style.
